I firmly believe in investing in prevention, whether that is preventing young people becoming victims or perpetrators of crime or helping to address mental health issues. Investing in the Boost programme is all about our public health approach to crime and getting to the root causes of unhealthy or unacceptable behaviour.

It has been wonderful to be involved in the Boost programme. It has brought a leadership focus to our Sixth Form pupils, giving them opportunities to reflect on their experiences growing up and consider how they can support younger pupils. The pupils have embraced the challenge to lead and are really excited to be working with the younger pupils.

We live in an overconnected world with social media dominating young people’s lives. This significantly impacts how young people establish their identity as they mature, often distorting or even damaging how they see themselves. Boost brings together the best and most up-to-date understanding for building self-awareness and self-discovery. Programmes like Boost should be part of the national curriculum. It is fantastic to see Gloucestershire Constabulary leading the way in this area.
